Another busy day and it started by me getting lost! I had to meet my tour bus at a place called Leicester Square so I asked the concierge the best way to get there. He advised “Oh, it’s very easy. Take the tube to Charing Cross and you can walk from there”. He then proceeded to mark the two stations on a map.
What he forgot to mention is that Charing Cross tube station has about 5 exits! And, as you may have predicted, stupid me took the wrong one. After about 10 minutes walking around Trafalgar Square trying to figure out where the hell I was, I finally had to ring the tour office to advise them that I was lost at Trafalgar Square and to let the bus know so they wouldn’t leave without me. Pick up time was 10am – I just managed to get there at 10:03am and they were waiting for me. Turned out I was the only passenger that had chosen to be picked up at this point. Best part is that I got a front row seat for the trip. Our first stop was Windsor Castle. It was breathtakingly beautiful. Definitely one of my favourites out of everything that I have managed to see. Would’ve loved to spend more time there but it’s just another reason to return.
All the walls and ceilings had some sort of decoration on them – gorgeous roof paintings and wonderful paintings and tapestries on the walls. Unfortunately, no photographs were allowed. Even ma
naged to catch a look at some soldiers returning to the Queen’s private quarters.
St George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor is amazing. It holds various tombs, including the Queen’s mum and dad. I had to force myself to leave – the craftsmanship inside had me spellbound. No time for lunch, too much to see.
Hampton Court was beautiful, but for me, it couldn’t compare to Windsor. I thought that the “newer” parts of Hampton Court weren’t as beautiful as the “older” sections which were similar to Windsor Castle’s decorations. Managed to take pictures of some of the art works and tapestries hanging on some of the walls. The gardens are spectacularly manicured.
Then, time to go back to the hotel – dropped off at Victoria Station and took the Number 16 bus back. Was so tired that I just ordered room service and here I sit, typing away after eating my meal.
I’m so tired already, and I still have 25 more days to go on my holiday!!
