TWENTY-FIRST DAY - NICE, FRANCE

Today was slow day out of Italy and into Nice, France, while passing Monaco from high up on the cliff tops. Today, of course, was the day of the Monaco Grand Prix and the huge yachts of the rich and famous were on display upon the crystal blue waters of the French Riviera.

Along the road to France we had two stops. The first stop was a short twenty minute break for the toilet and to pick up snacks.

The second one was meant to be for our lunch. We stopped at a rather small roadhouse which didn't have much hot food in their self-serve section (the fruit salad looked as if it had been sitting there since the day before!) so we all decided to go to another area where they had the sandwiches. Bad move. I had a chicken schnitzel, mayonnaise and salad toasted focaccia and it was simply awful. The chicken tasted fine, but I was expecting to see at least one tomato in the "salad" and at least a small squirt of mayonnaise. What "salad" there was was just limp, and sometimes brown lettuce. I only managed to take a few bites before giving up.

The view from the cliff top road that winds itself along the edge of Monaco towards Nice gave us a great view of the water, yachts and mansions of the rich and famous.

When we finally got to our hotel, we only had a couple of hours free time before our trip up the hills to our restaurant for dinner. On the way to the restaurant, our valiant driver made an illegal stop on the road to allow us to get some great photos of the view.

We had a welcome drink at the restaurant with local wine for the alcohol drinkers and freshly squeezed orange juice for the others. There was also a photo opportunity from the balcony.
Then, it was dinner time and, this time, we only had three courses - salad, main meal and dessert. As usual, dinner was delicious, but too damn quick! Before we knew it, it was time to go back to the hotel.

Some went up to the sixth floor where there is a bar and pool. I went to crash in my room and type up this blog.

Tomorrow, it's a full day in Nice.
